The Bay of Biscay is widely regarded as one of the stormiest seas on Earth but it is also home to a fantastic array of marine life that are able to take advantage of the massive upwelling of nutrients along the continental shelf edge. It just so happens that the passenger ferry route from Portsmouth to Bilbao tracks over this incredible area. We embarked on one such trip in 2009 and encountered some great wildlife watching.
