Adam Batty

Adam Batty has been working in or studying ecology and the environment for 30 years and has 10 years experience as a surveyor. He is based in Edinburgh well situated for covering sites in the Central belt, Southern Scotland and Northern England. Graduating in Zoology in 1988 with a II-1 Hons degree an HND course in Habitat surveying for wildlife spring-boarded Adam into his first Ecological contract as Corncrake fieldworker in the Shannon Callows for Birdwatch Ireland. The following year he was the South Pennines Twite surveyor for RSPB. Both contracts were a good basis for developing his skills as a surveyor. Afterwards Adam was employed as a bird and ecology surveyor for ESS Ltd based in Edinburgh and undertook virtually every form of avian survey methodology used to assess on shore and offshore wind farms . This time was followed by a position with Entec as a Consultant Ecologist where Adam was responsible for preparing Bird and Ecology chapters for Ecological Impact Assessments for a wide variety of projects. He was also involved in managing projects and preparing proposals, scoping extent of survey programme, desk studies, preparing protected species licenses, preparing work briefs and managing sub-contracted surveyors and undertaking fieldwork. In March 2008 Adam went freelance specialising in boat-based bird and marine mammal surveys throughout North Sea and Western Approaches using ESAS methodology. He has been employed almost exclusively as Party Chief on surveys with responsibility for the day to day running of surveys.
